I recently read Carrie's Story: An Erotic S/M Novel by Molly Weatherfield because it was highly recommended by some BDSM folk I respect, a fem domme and her submissive who thought it was wonderful.

So I was rather surprised to find that it is entirely a story about a female submissive who is with a male dominant throughout most of the book. I think the specific folks who recommended it found it hot because of the pony girl twist towards the middle of the novel.

One of the things I did find very enjoyable about the book is that the story is told by Carrie, whom is very much a cynical smart-ass inside her own head, while appropriately subservient outwardly. I found her intelligence and observations of herself and the BDSM world intriguing.

The plot is simple: Carrie meets Jonathon, who becomes her master, and he begins training her several days a week for about a year. In the middle of the novel, he sends her for advanced training with some friends and she begins the pony training. The third section of the book recounts her experiences when she is sold by an auction house in Europe.

Ms. Weatherfield is a competent writer and the book was well put-together, but I managed to not enjoy it much though.

The first section, as Carrie is first exploring her submission was reasonably interesting, if a bit offputting personally given the whole notion of a male dominant. Still, you remained pretty interested in Carrie as she was an interesting and thoughtful character with a wry sense of humor.

The pony training portion struck me as very unrealistic. I have never done pony training and am not experienced with it, so could be wrong, but it seemed fanciful to me to the degree that it was difficult to suspend disbelief.

That feeling persisted into the world of slavery in Europe, which was very two-dimensional and not fleshed-out in a manner that made it believable for me.

Maybe I'm just critical because this book didn't hit my buttons; I didn't find wack-off material which is what I hope for in erotica. I suspect those who fantasize about pony training would enjoy Carrie's Story much more than I did.
